The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) will construct its new headquarters building in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood of Washington, DC. The project will include the 130,000 SF NAB building and an adjacent Metro structure. Construction of the 10-story building will feature a curved facade facing M Street, a conference center on the top two floors, a rooftop terrace and a 100 seat theater. The site will be a showcase venue for radio and television stations across America.
GeoCapitol provided geotechnical engineering design services which included a subsurface investigation with three soil test borings. Soil samples obtained from the test borings was screened with a Photoionization Detector (PID) to detect the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Additionally, GeoConcepts also conducted a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey on portions of the site to scan for underground storage tanks. Preliminary recommendations were provided regarding foundations, subdrainage, excavation support, earthwork, and the adjacent Metro structure.
